What is sin?

                                 I was once asked in my Sociology Tutorial at university.

"What is sin?"

after praying for insight and a reply in clearly relevant to sociological issues

I replied

"Greed, hate, selfishness, rebellion and immorality" was the reply given.

Recently I would add abuse - particularly sexual abuse of children.and adults.

 

  •                      sin - the underlying causal factors of  our socal problems.
  •                        also referred to as  human nature  or sinful human nature
  •                       Sin  is  the underlying problem needing to be solved..

Jesus Christ is the answer

because He solved the problem is sin. He died to set us free.

      He took the punishment due to us. 

      Justice -  sin was ounished on the cross.

Salvation

  • is not just a ticket out of hell
  • or leading a good life
  • its a transformation where sin has lost it's power, it's hold is broken
  •     the change from self centredness to Christ centredness

weather it is our sin

or the sin against us.

 God judges sin

      - weather greed or  injustice

        weather it's sexual sin or sexual abuse

        in fact any exploitation of others - as it's a form of greed.  

What about when others sinned against me?

.Does God care that I was sexually abused in my childhood?

yes - He does.

"Vengence is mine".  He said.

He hears the cry of the poor, the oppressed, the sexually abused

and He acts:

  • in His time
  • when He raises up a deliverer
  • when He executes judgement.

 

we all need a saviour.

the one who took our place.

Two  sides of sin:

The sin we commit  - which we confess and repent of.

The sin committed against us - which we renounce and forgive.

I have written The Forgiveness Project  to discuss aspects of forgiveness for survivors.

 

It is a foundational principal of the Christian life that we do  confess and repent of our sin.

There is a whole debate about nature verses nurture.  It's complexity mixed with controvercy.

Likewise there is an ongoing theological debate between free will and predestination.

       My proposition of Moral Determination is not written to offend or  to stir controvercy

               but to share an insight I have found as a path to freedom from bondage.
